This consultation seeks your views on proposed legislative changes which, collectively with measures already in place, aim to provide regulation of consumer credit and associated activities. The Government is keen to ensure that these proposals will protect consumers from abusive practices and enable them to make well-informed decisions regarding the use of credit providers and services.
This is open to everyone to respond, but we particularly want to hear the views of:
- individuals who borrow money
- small businesses who borrow money (small businesses are sole traders and businesses which employ fewer than 10 full time employees and have an annual turnover of less than £2 million)
- individuals who lend money (you are likely to be considered a lender if your lending is frequent, on commercial terms with regular repayments / an indicative final date for repayment, are secured to ensure repayment of the loan, such as a mortgage, and / or
Interest is paid a fee charged)
- Any businesses which lend, advise on, administer, or arrange consumer credit and hire agreements or mortgages
- Credit brokers of these agreements and mortgages
- Anyone involved in the adjusting, counselling, administration and collection of debt relating to these agreements and mortgages
